4.0 out of 5 stars Sensational!

Other Girls is a fabulous story! I could not put this book down! I had to know what happened next! So well written that you feel like you truly know the characters in the book and need to know what happens in their lives. I loved it so much I have passed the book on to two friends who also have completely enjoyed the book. Can’t wait for the next book by Ayres!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Touching Tragedy

First off- I completely disagree that this book is any sort of pulp fiction. This was one of the best books I have ever read, and I have read many. The two most influental characters in the book, Elizabeth and Pip, take a while for a relationship to grow, but that makes it more realistic than having them start off into a relationship right at the beginning.

One of the greatest things about this book was Pip. She was a strong character in the beginning, but because of a rape by an egomaniac who also rapes his beautiful stepsister, the strength that Pip was haloed with dissolves, and the reality of her ruin and damage because of this horrible act become tragic and poignant throughout the novel. Her ruin gets in the way of her relationship with Elizabeth, and Pip’s need to find and escape leaves her abandoning the one she loves and disappearing for 8 years.

A beautiful ending and laughs throughout grant this novel with something very few authors are able to give to their work, especially when dealing with complex personalities and tragedies.

it’s completely heartbreaking and devastating. but at the same, it’s witty and funny. just remember, the ends justify the means. it’s also very well written. this book is constantly on loop in my mind, i have read it so many times (and not tired of it) that i can quote passages. there is so much depth to characters in this book, you could drown in it. it is however, a sophisticated read. that takes place in the 1970’s. think you can handle it?

what’s so great about the humor in this book is that it’s so inclusive. you feel like you are always in the midst of a terribly funny inside joke. its blatantly wonderful.

Finally a book that addresses bisexuality in a serious tone. The characters are fleshed out quite well and the plot moves and moves forward without delay and without rushing. The dialogue makes it fun and the insight into each of the characters’ motives without being “told” about these motives makes it touching. Love it.
